Attendance Policy PDF Print E-mail

The office may check excessive absences, tardies, and early dismissals and ask for the appropriate documentation. Postcard notification will be mailed home by the school secretary when your child is absent if the school is not notified by the parent prior to 10:00am.  When you have accumulated five (5) days of absences, a certified letter may be sent to your parent/guardian informing them of the fact. At ten (10) days of absences, the school administration may request a Mediation Hearing with the Juvenile Court. If mediation is not available, the administration may request a meeting with you and your parents/guardian. At fifteen (15) days of absences, the administration may file charges against your parents/guardians with the County Prosecutors Office.

In order to have the opportunity to pass a class, a student may not be absent (excused or unexcused) from the class more than five (5) times per quarter unless a doctor's excuse is provided.  Students who accumulate six (6) absences per quarter will be found in violation of the Attendance Policy.  Students violating the policy will receive an "F/A"(Failure due to attendance) for their course grade. and will receive the comment "Attendance Violation" on their grade card.

Violators will be handled as follows:
1.    A student will have the right to appeal the “FA” in writing within seventy-two (72) hours of being notified by the guidance counselor.  A meeting with the student and parent/guardian will be held to determine the validity/necessity of the excessive absences and a decision will be rendered.
2.    Students who lose the appeal or fail to appeal will be placed on an attendance contract that may restore credit for the preceding grading period.  Students who fulfill their contract will have their grades restored at the conclusion of the quarter following the violation.  Failure to fulfill the contract will result in a permanent "F" for the preceding quarter.
3.    Students who violate the attendance policy during the fourth quarter will have the opportunity to regain their credit through enrollment in Summer Virtual Academy at their expense.  The necessary curriculum will be determined by the guidance counselor and the student’s teachers.
4.    When a student fails two grading periods due to attendance, the principal will notify the superintendent who will notify the Bureau  of Motor Vehicles to suspend the student's driving privileges.
