Dear CMHS Families and Friends,
Welcome to the Clinton-Massie High School community. As demands and complexities of teaching children increase, it becomes more evident that we all need to work together to insure that our children reach their potential. We believe that all of us - the school and the community - must work together in an extended family environment to insure success for all our students. We believe it is everyone's responsibility to empower children with the creative, intellectual, and decision-making skills necessary for them to become academically, socially, physically, and emotionally successful and responsible.
Parents play a vital role in the school community, and I look forward to working with you as you and your student are a part of this school. I have an open-door policy with parents, so please stop by to see me when you are in the building or if you see me at any of the games or school functions. Research on schools clearly demonstrates that parent participation in their child's school coincides with a greater likelihood of academic success for their child. It is our distinct privilege to partner together with you in the education of your children. During their four-year tenure at CMHS, our students will work towards promoting respect and achieving honor through their academic and personal successes.
Clinton-Massie High School has an excellent educational program taught by a very talented and dedicated faculty. We are committed to providing each student with an education in which essential information and skills are learned, knowledge is explored, and ideas are critically analyzed and evaluated. Clinton-Massie prides itself on its high academic standards and on the accessibility of a rigorous curriculum for all students. Our students enjoy a diverse curriculum taught by experienced professionals dedicated to providing the best education possible. Eligible juniors and seniors have a unique opportunity to earn college credit by enrolling in our Dual Enrollment Program offered through Urbana University.
Clinton-Massie is a place where young men and women come to learn more about themselves, their community, and to prepare themselves for the realities of work and citizenship in the modern world. With increased expectations in every class because of the new state standards and with the increased pre-requisites for entry to post-secondary schools, the level of preparation required by all high school students is definitely on the rise. The high school experience of today is filled with more pressure, more competition, and higher expectations than ever before. We empathize with this and at the same time do not lower our expectations. Rather, we double our efforts to support our students in their endeavors. We encourage all students at Clinton-Massie High School to read all classroom material thoroughly, work on the ability to write effectively and efficiently, do all of the assigned homework, cooperate with teachers and peers, and meet all graduation requirements, so that each student can be prepared to continue his or her education and succeed in the workplace and community.
Finally, we want to again encourage parents to get involved beyond the specific booster clubs for sports or band to participate in school wide supports. Your child’s high school years are a special time in his or her life—a time of academic and personal challenge, and a time to make important decisions about your child’s present and future plans. We invite you to participate in our school community and to enjoy the excitement of learning. Please consider attending all of our report card fairs. Having parents get involved helps all our students. Student academic success and personal responsibility are truly dependent on a cooperative triangle comprised of the student, the teacher, and the parent/guardian. We encourage and depend on you to take an active and supportive role in your son’s/daughter’s education at Clinton-Massie High School, and we look forward to your continued support and personal involvement in the weeks and months ahead. If you have questions or concerns that arise at any time, please do not hesitate to give your child's teacher or me a call. I look forward to having a long and rewarding relationship with you and your family.
Sincerely,
Randy Dunlap, Principal
